Dear Friends,
Greetings from Kenya. Give thanks for a ‘solid’ hard working month! In between evangelism and discipleship in the villages, I have been working hard preparing presentations that I am to be giving in South Africa, the first on the 27th August and the last on 11th September. The openings I am receiving in South Africa are amazing. What is most amazing, I am thinking as I anticipate sharing various lectures and talks, is what I hope will be a direct relevance of what I am to say with local contexts. That is – contexts in which White / European people are seeking to relate closely with and work closely with people of African descent, especially in the work of the Gospel.
Please pray that I be able to communicate clearly, both in formal presentations, and in discussions with people. I have or a long time been trying to explain some fundamental errors being made my missionaries that result in their not understanding the people they are reaching as they should. This is another crack at that whip! The errors are not only being made by missionaries. Now with masses of immigrants from around the world reaching Europe, Europeans are making similar errors! Amazingly, after years of effort at getting Western people to pay attention to what ought to be obvious, it is taking very long for people to pay attention. (Yes, the current immigrant crisis could have been averted had we been wiser a few years ago.)
As I write (25th August) I have done a 4-day trip to get to Dar es Salaam so as to save a major chunk of airfare! (It is much cheaper to fly from Dar to Cape Town via Nairobi, than it is to fly directly from Nairobi to Cape Town. I don’t see these as ‘wasted days’, as I have visited people, and done work on the buses and trains I am using.) Travelling always helps to broaden my understanding of the African scene.
